Micke at Theatre Teatropen

Theatre Teatropen is a fringe theatre group, first of all direct towards physical theatre. They play Commedia dell’Arte and children’s theatre, and they also work experimenting. Teatropen is one of the few groups that not only work with rehearsals and performances, they also work with a continuous actors training. Ensemble playing and feeling are key words for Theatre Teatropen, both regarding the artistic work and production and other work around their performances.

Theatre Teatropen was founded from the Theatrestudio in 2001. During the summer break four first year students from the Theatrestudio made a Commedia dell’Arte inspired production of Tartuffe by Molière. It was played in the parks of Stockholm that summer.
After all members in the group finished the Theatrestudio it was time for their next show. That was a Commedia dell’Arte show. This is also where I come in. I wrote – together with Mattias Lindbladh – and directed ”Morens fånge”, wish was the first performance in a planned ”three-stage rocket”. ”Morens fånge” was first played in Helge Ands (Holy Spirit) ruin in Visby before it went on tour further in the south of Sweden during late summer.
The next winter theatre Teatropen where rehearsing ”Gusten Grodslukare”, a piece of children’s theatre by Ole Lund Kirkegaard, directed and dramatized by Jennifer Sternberg and in collaboration with Tyresö Montessori school.
The next summer it was time for me to direct another Commedia dell’Arte show: ”Det allra Löjligaste”. This time I wrote the show together with the whole group. Even ”Det allra Löjligaste” had its opening in Helge Ands ruin and continued on tour i the South of Sweden.
In the winter of 2003/2004 the group begun work on ”Gränsblickar”, a more experimental work, under the direction of Jimmie Jonasson. It has not came to an opening yet (This is written in july 2005) but they have shown some ”work-in-progress” so far.
The last Commedia dell’Arte show in the ”three-stage rocket”, ”Allting på”, had its opening in Bottarvegården also located in the island of Gotland, where the show played for one month before it went touring. ”Allting på” was also written and directed by me. It was rehearsed in Hallstavik and in Gotland.
One thing more, Giovanni Capensi does not exist

"Morens Fånge”, was step one in a three year cooperation between me and Theater Teatropen, it played as an out door performance in an early Commedia dell’Arte style full of jesting, acrobatics, improvisation, music, fencing and pranks. It opened in July 2002 in Helge Ands ruin in Visby and continued with a two month tour in the south of Sweden

Pantalones and Signora’s daughter Isabella has been taken prisoner by the moor, Pulcinella and his servant Zanni. Leandro, Isabella’s lover and the by Pantalone hated one, goes frantic from despair and goes to find the moor. The moor in his turn tries to sell back Isabella to Pantalone, who doesn’t want to pay. Instead Pantalone sends his servant, Arlecchino, to fetch Isabella, while Signora tries to seduce Leandro. And so it goes on until the happy ending.

The performance was first rehearsed in the spring in Stockholm at Salong Katakomb, later to be rehearsed in the summer in Stånga, in Gotland.
The writing of the script and the rehearsals went hand in hand. The scenario to the show was first written by Mattias Lindbladh and adapted by me. Then the material has been rehearsed and put together by me together with the actors. This has in its turn been the basis when I wrote the lines and songs.

Steptwo in the Commedia dell’Arte cooperation with theatre Teatropen was named “Det allra Löjligaste”, or – in English – The Most Ridiculous. The performance was a development of the work in “Morens fånge”. It contained more or less the same disciplines, but one year of experience of touring a children’s theatre and acrobatics and music lessons for the actors allowed considerable greater possibilities to go further.
”Det allra Löjligaste” opened in July 2003, in Helge Ands ruin in Visby, before the show went on tour in the south of Sweden. It played 41 performances altogether in two months, where a lot of people came back to se also this
performance.

"Det allra Löjligaste” is about Pantalones attempt to get his daughter Petunia married with her suitor Dottore. Petunia on the other hand wants nothing more than to marry Florindo, who she just has met. But also Pulcinella is in love with Petunia, a love he believes to be answered. Pulcinella goes to Dottore in order to learn good manners, so he will be able to propose to her. Just about then Pantalone looses his memory and his servant Zanni takes the command. At the same time Pulcinella coax Arlecchino to steal wine and cognac from Pantalone. And after the final fencing scene between Zanni and Pulcinella Petunia let Dottore and Pulcinella compete over her, before the happy end.

As with the rehearsals of “Morens Fånge” the rehearsals of “Det allra Löjligaste” started at Salong Katakomb in the spring and finished in Stånga, in Gotland. The script was written completely by me this time. This is also when I started using video as a tool in my writing.

"Allting på…?” was the conclusion in the three-stage rocket in the cooperation with theatre Teatropen. This performance was also the one where I left the actors most alone both when it comes to writing the script and in the directing. Instead I focused on the actors and their improvisations and whims. The name itself, “Allting på…?” (or ”Everything on…?), was set long before we knew what the performance was about.
This was also the performance were we have worked the most advanced acrobatics. It falls natural since the actors by then had been training acrobatics continuously for three years in a row.
The opening was 9 July 2004 at Bottarvegården on the south of Gotland where “Allting på…?” played a month before it went on tour around
Sweden.

"Alltingpå…?” is about Zanni and Pulcinella who are thieves and comes to steal, but instead Pulcinella happen to buy Arlecchino, the servant of Pantalone, since Pantalone wants to have Smeraldina, who also work in his house, for himself. Arlecchino is having a relationship with Smeraldina. But Zanni gets jealous and he doesn’t want to have anything to do with Arlecchino since Arlecchino is a better thief than Zanni. For example he steals money from Pantalone so Smeraldina can buy Arlecchino back.
